Reply's From The Identifiers

57 CHEVROLET

4/21/98 - Paula Cole is the artist per a E-mail we got from Quinton Montgomery
* Re: 57_Chevy
7/28/98 - Billie Jo Spears is the artist per a E-mail received from Ken O'Reilly. The song name is 57 Chevrolet and it is a country tune.

455 ROCKET

* Re: 4.55.mid Has Been Identified As: 455 Rocket. (Thanks To Kathy)

BLACK VELVET

* Re: 08.mid Identified As: Black Velvet.
Hi, The song title for 08.mid, is Black Velvet by Alannah Myles (Pop/Rock)
(Thanks To Anita Ford)   [Anita also supplied the lyrics]  If you would like to see them click HERE.

BLACK VELVET - 2

Fool Has Been Identified  And Renamed As:  Black Velvet by Alannah Myles (Version 2)
The song you have marked as 'Fool' on your Jazz page is actually the song 'Black Velvet', which was performed by Alana Miles (sp) in the late 80's or early 90's.  It was not a jazz tune by any means.
Thanks, Doug Waxler
(Thanks To You - I knew I liked that tune! Jack)
CLASSICAL GAS

* Re: clasclgs.mid Has Been Identified As Classical Gas:
Greetings from Australia where I've just found your site.  I can help you identify one of the songs that has you puzzled.  clasclgs.mid is in fact a tune called Classical Gas.  It was a medium sized hit in about 1968 for a guitarist called Mason Williams who I believe is also the composer.  Can't help you with the others though but keep up the good work.  Ian Maurice
(Thanks To Ian Maurice And Kiss123)
10'19'98 - Corrected Name To Classical Gas
 (Thanks To R. Leek)
In doing a little more research on Mason Williams after receiving Mr. Leeks E-Mail I found out that Mason Williams also gained prominence as a comedy writer on the late 60's TV show "The Smothers Brothers"

Crying
Crying Has Been Identified As: Crying - From TopCat
Crying By Roy Orbison - 1962 - Country/Pop
(Thanks, TopCat1303)  [I Knew I Should Have Known That Tune!]
After TopCat Helped Me Out On This Tune, I Realized I Had A Much Better Version, Which I Have Now Posted!
Dead And Bloated
*DED26BLOT Has Been Identified As:  Dead And Bloated By The "Stone Temple Pilots"
There is a song on your "unknown songs" page by the file name DED26BLOT.
The song is called 'Dead and Bloated' by Stone Temple Pilots.  Thought I
could help out a bit. Have a good day! :-)  Lullabye

(Thanks, Lullabye, I Would Never Have Figured This One Out!)
JUMP, JIVE AN' WAIL
* JJW Has Been Identified As Jump, Jive, An' Wail

5/11/99 From Alfren From Sweden.  Your request about "jjw.mid" = Jump, Jive An' Wail - Brian Setzer Orchestra.

After receiving Alfrens mail I did a little more research on the tune and discovered it was originally written and recorded by Louis Prima as a Dixieland Swing, R&B, tune in 1958.  It was recorded later in the 90's by The Brian Setzer Orchestra on their "Dirty Boogie" album.  Thanks, Alfren For Identifying The Tune - Jack

MARCO AND GEENA'S LOVE THEME
* Re: Crimson Has Been Identified As Marco and Geena's Love Theme:

1/31/99 - My Original Question:  Could This Tune Be "Crimson And Clover" By Tommy James & The Shondells-60's-70's Or Joan Jett And The Blackhearts-70's-90's

2/10/99 "Crimson" doesn't get anywhere near "Crimson and Clover" as far as I can tell (I fell asleep waiting for something to happen).  I'll download them and play them on the Roland.  Maybe they'll sound  better (my computer uses Kurzweil samples in the Turtle Beach sound card, so it's not hard to listen to!).
Bob Leek

The file "Crimson" is definitely NOT "Crimson and Clover".  Not a piece of a phrase or a common cadence between the two exists (that I can detect).  There are no hints in the file either.  Some of it sounds like Barbra Streisand's duet with Barry Gibb, "What Kind of Fool", but I don't get anything else from it.
I hand it back to those more "hip" than myself!
Bob Leek

Crimson comes up in these listing in Billboard magazine's database:
"Crimson Ship" on Badfinger's album "Magic Christian Music" (1970) Capitol
"Crimson Lake" on Joe Henderson's "Relaxin' at Camarillo" (1979) Original Jazz Classics
"Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal" on Paul Robeson's "Ballad for Americans" (no date)
Vanguard Also References to "crimson": D.O.A.'s "Companions of the Crimson Ark" (1979)
Philo Phil Keaggy's "Crimson and Blue" (1994) Word (religious label-- a possibility)
Tons of King Crimson albums (English progressive rock group-- not likely, though there is an orchestral album, "In the Court of the Crimson King", that may be in the vein...)
Just suggestions. I really have no clue.
Bob Leek

Your Crimson file is definitely not Crimson and Clover.
If you find
"Nobody" by Sylvia could you please let me know.
Thanks, Linda

3/22/99 - Well I accidentally identified this song myself, along with the help of the Midi Explorer search engine.  Crimson, as noted on this page is  Is "Marco and Geena's Love Theme", from the Japanese
film, "Crimson Pig".
I Could not find out the composers name , however the film was directed by the Japanese director, "Miyazaki" who directed many nice, romantic, and moving films.
 Jack

MARIO2
Mario2 Has Been Identified As:  Mario2
From Gary Wood
The Midi is the theme song for the Super Mario Brothers 2 Video game for the original Nintendo Entertainment System, I know the theme, and the game all too well!
(Thanks, Gary)
MERCURY BLUES

My wife and I believe that the song MERCURY is originally done by ALAN JACKSON and the name of the song is MERCURY BLUES, there is a commercial for Ford that advertises their Trucks and ALAN Jackson sings the commercial for them. The main verse is If I had money I tell you what I would do I would go down town and buy a Ford Truck or Two, Crazy bout a Ford Truck......

What do you think???

From: (A Watkins)

It's definitely Mercury Blues, recorded by Alan Jackson on the "A Lot about Livin' (and a Little 'Bout Love)" album. Your midi is missing the melody line!

Here are the lyrics: DAVID LINDLEY - MERCURY BLUES

Well, if I had money tell you what I'd do I'd go downtown and buy a Mercury or two Crazy 'bout a Mercury, Lord I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road
Well, the girl I love, I stole her from a friend He got lucky stole her back again She heard he had a Mercury, Lord she's crazy 'bout a Mercury

I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road

Well, hey now mama you look so fine Ridin' round in your Mercury 49 Crazy 'bout a Mercury, Lord I'm crazy 'bout a Mercury I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road

Well, my baby went out she didn't stay long Bought herself a Mercury, come a cruisin' home Crazy 'bout a Mercury, yeah she's crazy 'bout a Mercury I'm gonna buy me a Mercury and cruise it up and down the road

Repeat first verse

More info received from Randy 5'10'98:
Jack. The title is Mercury Blues.  It was released by Steve Miller on the album Fly like an Eagle in 1976.  Upon further investigation I have found that it was written by K.C.Douglas, and was released on a compilation album titled I have to paint my face: Mississippi Blues 1960, in 1960.

Thanks To Everyone - Jack

MISSISSIPPI

* Re: missippi - Charlie Pride sings a song about Mississippi.  Believe this might be his song.  Barbara Bird (Well Folks, Does This Give Us A Clue?)

* Re: missippi - From Gary Donovan
Hi, Another identification for ya!  Mississippi was a hit in the UK for a Dutch (I'm pretty sure) group who went under the name of Pussycat, and dates from the mid 1970's Glad to be of help,  Gary Donovan
(Does Anyone disagree With Gary???)

* Re: missippi - Additional complete information received from Jennifer Logan finalizes the question about this tune. CLICK HERE!

QUEEN OF RAIN
Qor Has Been Identified As: Queen Of Rain By Roxette:

* Per E-Mails Received From Maverick, And Some Further Research, Qor May Have Been Identified As A Version Of : "The Shape Of Things To Come" By The 60's -70's Group, Paul Revere & The Raiders.
We Also Believe The Song Was Originally Recorded By The Kingston Trio, Written By Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil. It Also Has Been Recorded By Many Others.

The Tune Was Used At One Time As One Of The Sound Tracks On The 1968 Movie,
"Wild In The Streets" And Also Recorded By The Bee-Gees For The 1988 Summer Olympics.
The Raiders Version Was Recorded In 1971 And Included On Their Album, "Indian Reservation".
Let Me Know If You Agree Or Disagree With What We Believe This Tune Is!

We Received A E-Mail From Peter Lingman, From Sweden Who Says The Song Is "Queen Of Rain" By The English Swedish Duo, "Roxette".  I Had Another  Copy Of That Tune, And It Sounds Right, So We Are Going To Go With That!!!  (Took A Year To Get It Identified)
3/21/99
Thanks To James For Telling Me That Roxette Is A Swedish Duo Rather Than English.

THE WINNER TAKES IT ALL

* Winner Has Been Identified As:  The Winner Takes It All By The Pop Group ABBA.
Thanks to Gary Donovan, Dwight Duesing and Steve Hammon For Identifying This Song.

After their input we realized we already had the tune, a much better version, which is now posted on our site.

UNO
Jan-1999-I Posted This Tune About A Year Ago As "Unotango".  I Haven't Received One Clue Other Than That It Is A Latin Tango.
I Guess I Better Give Up On Correctly Naming This One!   I Still Kind Of Like It So I'm Moving It To My Miscellaneous Featured Tunes Page!
02'21'00-After Well Over A Year, I Received E-Mail From Jimmie McGuire Saying He Found The Tune At A Spanish Web Site.  With That Lead And A Little Further Searching, I Finally Found Lots Of Information.
*Unotango Has Finally Been Identified As: "Uno"
The Original Composers Were Enrique Santos Discepolo And Marianito Mores And The First Artist Was "Marianito Mores" From Argentina And The Song Has Now Been Recorded On More Than 70 Albums From The 40's Through The 90's" By Many Latin And South American Artists.  In This Research Also With Jimmies' Help I Found A MIDI Version That Is Probably Much Closer To The Original Song, Sequenced By "Luciano Quinones" From Puerto Rico In 1997.  Play This Version Here
"UNO"
Thanks, Jimmie
